The Ministry of Health announced that on Sunday, two more people died from the ‘Marburg’ virus, which recently emerged in the country.
This brings the death toll from the disease in Rwanda to eight, while the number of infections remains at 26, with 18 people currently receiving treatment.
The first cases of this illness were reported in Rwanda on September 27, 2024.
To prevent the further spread of this disease, on Sunday, the Ministry of Health issued new regulations, including a 14-day suspension of hospital visitations in all healthcare facilities to mitigate the risk of contagion.
The guidelines also stipulate that no funerals will be held for those who die from this virus, with burials limited to no more than 50 attendees.
Additionally, no farewell ceremonies will be held for the deceased at churches or mosques, with any farewell services to take place at hospitals instead.
Despite these measures, Rwandans have been advised to continue with their daily activities while maintaining proper hygiene and washing their hands with clean water and soap regularly.
